Henceforth she could not financially contribute to her family income. Her family income was not adequate as they do not earn much from the agricultural produces. LEADS Intervention: while returning home after attending SHG meeting, she met with LEADS staff working under Race project and came to know about entrepreneurship training programme organized by LEADS under Race project. She attended the entrepreneurship training program and got the detailed information on this subject during the training as well as technical part was also imparted. Changes: She was very delighted after attending the training and purchased wheat grinding and paddy harvesting machine which runs on clean energy with the help of SHG members. Presently, she is earning five hundred to six hundred rupees a day by dehiscing paddy and grinding wheat, and her family's expenses are met with this income apart from that she is paying instalments as she has purchased the machine with the help of SHG. She extended her gratitude the Race team of LEADS organization for their help and support. Key Learning: Always money not matters sometimes self-motivation and dedication does the work

Irrigation through the help of solar water pump and its advantages

It comes under Hassa Panchayat; located 9 KM towards the South of the…Beneficiary: Jagru Pahan Location: Mahil, Hassa, Panchayat, Murhu, District -- Khunti Background: Mahil is a small Village in Murhu Block of Khunti District of Jharkhand State, India. It comes under Hassa Panchayat; located 9 KM towards the South of the District headquarters Khunti. The farmers generally rely on diesel-run pumps or pumps run by electricity. The condition of irrigation is not proper in Jharkhand so the farmers face huge losses. LEADS Intervention: Under the Race project the farmers of Mahil village are using solar pump that is running by the help of solar panels, which is pollution-free and since the production has increased, the income has also increased. Mr. Jagru Pahan who is the beneficiary of the solar water pump has attended the VCEC meeting organized by LEADS, in the meeting he had acquired full knowledge on the operation and maintenance part of solar water pump. The training was provided to the farmers on how to start the pump, operation, and maintenance part. The benefits of solar water and its repairing part and after several follow-ups' application was passed and solar water pump was installed in the farm of Jagru Pahan. Changes: Since he has started using solar water pump which is running by the help of solar panel so it had benefitted him. The cost of electricity bills and diesel has reduced and when at night when there is no power, he utilises the solar power for operating lights. Apart from that now in one season, he is cultivating two to three crops that resulted in his income increment. He is growing several types of vegetables and crops like peas and tomatoes.

Food grown…With deteriorating economic conditions in the rural India and increased interest in natural and sustainable living, many folks are turning to high value crop farming to maintain supplement to their family's diet and uplift economic conditions. Food grown through this cultivation practices consumes less cost intensive and the grower can be sure of what exactly was used to grow it. This is an integration of success mantra for sustainable agriculture. Keeping this in mind, the Project seeks to motivate the farming community in the intervention villages to practice high value crop cultivation by facilitating the training programmes and providing support with the seeds. 45-Year-old Malti Devi lives in Budhangoda village of Koh Panchayat, Petarwar Block with a family of 4 members. She engaged in traditional seasonal cultivation practices but the meagre income was never sufficient for meeting needs of her family. Ultimately, it was through HRDP they overcome their plight. During the course of interventions in her village, she enrolled for natural farming training and learnt the techniques. The Intervention has supported her with high value seeds such as Bitter Gourd, cucumber and bottle gourd and she started cultivating these varieties on her 25 decimal of farm land. Now, the yield of produce of 40 to 45 kg every day except the next day earning a profit of 15000- 20000 /- rupees in a single season by selling these vegetables. She meets out her family needs and investing on education for both children. She overwhelmed with joy. Encouraged by the success, she is determined to continue the practice and became the model progressive farmer. VILLAGE LEARNING CENTERS: Enabling rural children access to education during COVID lockdown

COVID 19 has severely impacted the lives and livelihoods of the rural population. Children are one of the worst affected by COVID 19, especially in rural and tribal areas. Children are one of the worst affected by COVID 19, especially in rural and tribal areas. The subsequent closure of the schools deprived children of rural areas without any access to formal education. LEADS, with the support of ILP initiated Village Learning Centres for class 1-5 children in Bandgaon block of west singhbhum district. Educated youth from rural villages were engaged as education volunteers also called VIDYA SAATHI. 46 Village Learning Centres were established with the support of VidyaSaathi's. The VidyaSaathi's were provided trainings on teaching methodologies in foundational literacy and numeracy. Different learning resources were provided to the Village Learning Centres. Learning level assessments were done with children to assess improvement & gaps in language and numeracy.
